WNCC MLK JR Commemoration Service 2024

Hi all!

This note is to inform you of the Martin Luther King Jr. Children's and Youth Essay Contest Details for 2024!!! 


The MLK Jr. Commemoration Service will be held January 13, 2024 at Saint Luke UMC, Hickory NC.

The full church address is : 52 16th Avenue NW; Hickory NC. 28601


The theme of the event is Remember! Reflect! Act! Building Beloved Community in a Wounded World 


The Keynote Speaker will be Rev. Doctor Candace Lewis- President-Dean of Gammon Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia.


We look forward to involving our children and youth as we are also sponsoring our yearly essay/poem/drawing contest.


The prompt is directly related to the program theme: Remember! Reflect! Act! Building a Beloved Community in a Wounded World.


The word “wounded” is an adjective. It means that there has been an injury. Something is not of its original state; it is bruised or disfigured.  God wants us to live in a Whole and Loving Community. Psalm 133:1(NIV) “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”

 

Prompt-Please express your vision of how “We can Build a Beloved Community in a Wounded World”.


The submission to this contest may be: An Original Essay (500 words or less), An Original Picture/Drawing, Original Painting, An Original Poem.


The contest is open to: Elementary, Middle School and High School Students.

Three cash awards will be awarded in each category.


The deadline for submissions is Dec. 30, 2023.
